or, like, the closest thing we'll get to knowing what patrick was like, besides his few accounts of it

this is kind of like a "it's weird that these two characters had to uncomfortably sit through the 'you’ve got to keep one hand on my cock and the other on my balls' joke" situation, but also, from american psycho:

“Hello, men,” Owen says and he introduces the two guys he’s with, Trent Moore and someone named Paul Denton.

he’s the shortest fuse of the group only because he’s the biggest feeler. he cries after lauren tells him she likes someone else and that he’ll never know her, and then when he’s forced to visit his father

he still believes in some sort of commitment and is the one who suggests to her that they should get married. he has a romantic fantasy of kissing lauren in the middle of a party and everyone cheering for him

he takes lauren's "no one ever knows anyone" to heart (contrasted by paul’s “What in the hell does that mean?”). he sees her in other girls and knows he’ll never forget her

even though he wasn’t completely faithful to lauren or wasn’t able to love paul back, they didn’t have the best intentions for him either
